Giant LAX metaphor gets a facelift

Los Angeles International Airport stands in for a lot of airfields on the silver screen, but when Hollywood wants to say, "This is LAX," the shots generally include the 1961 Theme building. The cabin appears to be suspended from a pair of arches, but the structure's loadbearing portion actually ends at restaurant height, with the higher members being hollow stucco. A yearlong renovation of the exterior is scheduled to end in November.
